Scope and Content Note
The papers of the Patterson-Winslow family span the years 1813-1963, with the bulk of the material concentrated in the period 1830-1908. The collection consists of correspondence, diaries, speeches, writings, military records, genealogical material, financial records, newspaper clippings, scrapbooks, photographs, and other papers of the Patterson, Pearson, Winslow, and Worthington families of Washington, D.C. Prominent members include C. P. Patterson, scientist and superintendent of the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey, and Francis Winslow, a biologist. The papers are organized into six series: Winslow Family , Patterson Family , Patterson and Pearson Families , Pearson Family , Worthington Family , and Oversize .
The main family members represented in the collection are Francis Winslow and his wife, Harriet Patterson Winslow, and her parents, C. P. Patterson and Eliza Pearson Patterson. Correspondents include Spencer Fullerton Baird, James Gillespie Blaine, George Dewey, Ulysses S. Grant, Archibald MacLeish, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, David D. Porter, John Rodgers, Theodore Roosevelt, William H. Taft, and Earl Warren.
