Acquisition Information
The papers of Abraham Ribicoff were acquired by the Library of Congress as a series of deposits and gifts from Ribicoff in 1980-1981. The deposited items were converted to a gift in 1984. Two items were given to the Library by Jon O. Newman in 1981 and Richard D'Amato in 1982. Two additions were transferred from the National Archives and Records Administration in 1987-1988. An addition was given by Lois Mell Mathes Ribicoff in 2006, materials were transferred from the United States Historical Office in 2008, and an addition was given by Amy Kotkin in 2016.
Processing History
The papers of Abraham Ribicoff were processed by Patti Aronson, a member of Ribicoff's staff, before the Library acquired them in 1980-1981. The papers were rehoused by Richard Bickel in 1981. An addition was processed by Connie L. Cartledge in 1987, and the finding aid revised in 2012. An addition was processed and the finding aid revised by Rachel McNellis in 2023.

Transfers
Items have been transferred from the Manuscript Division to other custodial divisions of the Library. Some photographs and a poster have been transferred to the Prints and Photographs Division. Audio and video recordings and motion picture film have been transferred to the Motion Picture, Broadcasting, and Recorded Sound Division. All transfers are identified in these divisions as part of the Abraham Ribicoff Papers. Patrons are encouraged to contact these divisions in advance of a research visit.

A microfilm edition of part of these papers is available on 182 reels. Consult reference staff in the Manuscript Division concerning availability for purchase or interlibrary loan. To promote preservation of the originals, researchers are required to consult the microfilm edition.
