Biographical Note
Henry Albert Monday, born 1876 in Kaufman County, Texas, moved to Oaxaca, Mexico in the early 1900 to serve as a doctor. From there, circa 1916-1920, he began a medical practice in the American Hospital in Mexico City, becoming chief surgeon and medical advisor. Through prominent connections, he became friends with leading Mexican officials, and he also developed in interest in Mexican history and culture. A collection of books, manuscripts, and antiquities that he built was said to be one of the largest in Mexico City. He died in June 1944.
