Provenance
The papers of Robert Porter Patterson, lawyer, jurist, and U.S. secretary of war, were given to the Library of Congress in two installments by Margaret Patterson. The first installment was deposited in the Library in 1953 and converted to a gift in 1959. The second installment was given in 1964.
Processing History
The Robert Porter Patterson Papers were processed in 1966 and revised in 1999. The finding aid was revised again in 2013.
Transfers
Items have been transferred from the Manuscript Division to other custodial divisions of the Library. Some photographs, photograph albums, and a presentation album have been transferred to the Prints and Photographs Division. A record album has been transferred to the Motion Picture, Broadcasting, and Recorded Sound Division. All transfers are identified in these divisions as part of the Robert Porter Patterson Papers.
