Administrative Information
Acquisition Information
The papers of Joel Thompson Boone, physician and naval officer, were deposited at the Library of Congress by Boone in 1966-1970. An addition comprising the bulk of the collection was received as a deposit from Boone in 1971. The deposit was converted to a gift by his daughter, Suzanne Boone Heller, in 1983.
Processing History
The papers were organized and described in 1979. At this time the entire collection was restricted. In 1983, the restriction was lifted from the material concerning the bituminous coal study and that material was separated and placed in additional boxes at the end of the collection. All restrictions were lifted from the papers in 1994. The finding aid was revised by Karen Linn Femia with the assistance of Brian McGuire in 2014 and at this time the bituminous coal study material was reunited with the collection. The finding aid was updated in 2023 by Maria Farmer as part of a division-wide remediation project by the Inclusive Description Working Group.
