Scope and Content Note
The collection of James Orchard Halliwell-Phillipps (1820-1889) spans the years 1576-1852, with the bulk of the material concentrated in the period 1632-1792. The collection consists of bound volumes of bills, accounts, and inventories compiled by Halliwell-Phillipps for an unfinished work on the history of prices in England between 1650 and 1750. The last volume, Some Account of a Collection of Several Thousand Bills, Accounts, and Inventories, Illustrating the History of Prices Between the Years 1650 and 1750, printed for private circulation in 1852, contains a descriptive account of the collection as arranged by Halliwell-Phillipps and received and housed by the Library.
