Scope and Content Note
The United States Department of State Spanish-American Affairs Collection spans the years 1810-1816 and consists of correspondence, diplomatic documents, and other material relating to United States relations with Spanish America in the early nineteenth century. Subjects include Latin American liberation movements, problems of West Florida, and filibustering expeditions against Mexico. Correspondents include Ira Allen, Richard W. Meade, James Madison, James Monroe, Luis de Onís, and José Álvarez de Toledo.
