Scope and Content Note
The papers of Glenn Luther Martin (1886-1955) span the years 1909-1956, with the bulk of the material concentrated in the period 1920-1955. The collection consists of correspondence, subject files, photographs, reports, financial material, scrapbooks, printed matter, and other papers relating primarily to Martin's business and real estate interests, to airplane manufacturing, and to his recreational pursuits. The papers are organized into six series: General Correspondence, Subject File, Speech File, Printed Matter, Miscellany, and Oversize.
The Subject File contains material relating to Martin's involvement in sports organizations such as the All American Baseball Association, Ducks Unlimited, and the League of Maryland Sportsmen. Other papers and photographs concern his gift to the University of Maryland to establish the Glenn L. Martin Institute of Technology. There are also papers relating to the Glenn L. Martin Company, the Diamond Corporation of America, and Martin's real estate holdings. Scrapbooks in the collection trace significant events in Martin's life from 1910 to 1944.
