Scope and Content Note
The papers of John Randolph (1777-1833), known as John Randolph of Roanoke, span the years 1803-1834. The collection is bound in five volumes and consists of correspondence and diaries of John Randolph and his son, John Clay Randolph, who served as secretary to his father while he was ambassador to Russia in 1830. The diary of John Clay Randolph stems from the period both were in Moscow. John Randolph’s diary is dated 1818-1819. Correspondents in addition to Randolph family members include James M. Garnett and Josiah Quincy.
