Scope and Content Note
The enlargement prints of British Ministers' Correspondence in the Public Archives of Canada, spanning the years 1791-1875, were reproduced from various series of originals in the Public Archives of Canada. They consist of correspondence between British ministers in Washington and various high government officials and military commanders in Canada as selected from Military Papers (Series C, 20 volumes between 32-736, 1213, and 1236); Executive Council (Series E, item 152); Governor Generals (Series G, 103 volumes between 88-573, registers, letterbooks, and portfolios); Secretary of State (Series S, selections from several offices); Colonial Office 188 (37 volumes between 152-201); and Sir Charles Bagot Papers (volumes 1-2, 4-5).
The enlargement prints have been interfiled into forty-seven volumes and organized within eight series: British Ministers to the Governor General; British Ministers to the Lieutenant Governor, Upper Canada; British Ministers to the Lieutenant Governor, New Brunswick; British Ministers to the Governors of Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Commanders; British Ministers from the Governor in Chief; British Ministers from the Governor in Chief, Upper Canada; British Ministers from the Lieutenant Governor, New Brunswick; and British Ministers from the Governors of Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Commanders. These same records are available on thirty-one reels of microfilm that reproduced the records in their original order.
