Acquisition Information
The papers of Sandra Day O'Connor, lawyer, judge, and state legislator of Arizona, and first woman associate justice of the United States Supreme Court, were given to the Library of Congress in 1990. Subsequent additions were given by her between 1991 and 2008.
Processing History
Part I of the papers of Sandra Day O'Connor was arranged and described in 1993 by Harry G. Heiss with the assistance of Kathleen Kelly. Additional material received between 2004 and 2008 was processed as Part II in 2011 by Connie L. Cartledge with the assistance of Maria Farmer, Rosa Hernandez, Sherralyn McCoy, Dan Oleksiw, Kimberly Owens, Janice E. Ruth, and Nicole Topich. The finding aid was revised in 2016. In 2022 the Separated Law Clerk Memoranda (Closed) series was created, and the finding aid was revised. In 2023 the digital files were processed, and the finding aid was revised.
Digital files were received as part of the Sandra Day O'Connor Papers. Each were assigned a unique digital ID number. Use the digital ID number to request access copies of the files associated with each piece of media. Transfers
Items have been transferred from the Manuscript Division to other custodial divisions of the Library. Some photographs have been transferred to the Prints and Photographs Division. Sound recordings, videotapes, and other moving images have been transferred to the Motion Picture, Broadcasting, and Recorded Sound Division. All transfers are identified in these divisions as part of the Sandra Day O'Connor Papers. Patrons are encouraged to contact these divisions in advance of a research visit.

Technical Requirements
Digital files were created in a Windows operating system, version unknown. Content includes text files, primarily in Microsoft Word 97-2003 (.doc) and Adobe Acrobat 1.2 and 1.4 (.pdf) and image files, primarily JPEG File Interchange Format 1.1 and 2.2.1 (.jpg) and Graphic Interchange Format 89a (.gif). Files can be accessed using current standard file viewers.
