Scope and Content Note
The papers of Edward L. Deuss (1897-1976) span the years 1830-1976 and relate primarily to his career as a journalist for the International News Service (INS) in the Soviet Union and Germany from 1927 to 1934. His career is documented through letters, field journals, and photographs. Of particular note are his photographs of Germany from 1931 to 1933 and a detailed letter written to J. V. Deuss’s photographs also document his travels in Algeria, Western Europe, and Central Asia including Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Mongolia. The collection also includes materials relating to his personal life, including his high school writing assignments, family photographs, and a eulogy. No materials in the collection relate to his professional or personal life between 1934 and 1976. The collection is in English, with some German and Russian language material.
