Scope and Content Note
The papers of the Stacy Conrad Farrior family span the period 1907-1949, with the bulk of the material dating from 1912 to 1941. Consisting mainly of correspondence from Stacy Conrad Farrior to his parents, John Edward Farrior and Cora Alice Farrior, these letters document Farrior’s life and work in China from 1912 to 1949, and reflect the missionary spirit of that period. The collection is in English and organized alphabetically by type of material.
Family correspondence consists primarily of letters received by John Edward Farrior and Cora Alice Farrior from Farrior, his wife, Kitty Caldwell Farrior, and their children, John McMullen Farrior, Ruth Farrior, and Hugh Lanier Farrior. These letters are filled with details of Farrior's work as a teacher, school administrator, and missionary, as well as the daily life and development of his children and comment on events such as the Northern Expedition and the Second Sino-Japanese War. Also included is a small amount of correspondence between Farrior and his siblings, Audrey Farrior, John Edward Farrior, Jr., Marsden Lee Farrior, and Norman Player Farrior.
General correspondence consists primarily of correspondence to John Edward Farrior and Cora Alice Farrior about Farrior's work and the activities of missionaries in China.
Miscellany includes Farrior's college English classwork, banking records and a solicitation for donations to the Board of Foreign Missions of the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A.
