Scope and Content Note
The papers of Alan Greenspan span the years 1914-2009 with the bulk of the material dating from 1948 to 2009. The collection documents the career of Alan Greenspan as an economist in both the private and public sector. The collection is organized into eleven series: Federal File, Speeches, Engagements, Correspondence, Townsend-Greenspan and Company, The Age of Turbulence , Personal File, Closed, 2024 Addition, National Security Classified Information, and Oversize.
The collection’s series are listed and briefly described below. A fuller description of each series and a list of its contents can be accessed in the series descriptions within the container list.
The Federal File contains various items related to Greenspan's membership of several federal commissions and boards, including his chairmanship of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve.
The Speeches series features Alan Greenspan's speeches and public remarks to government bodies, conferences, meetings, and events.
The Engagements series documents Greenspan's travel arrangements and itineraries to various conferences and public events.
The Correspondence series features correspondence between family, friends, and colleagues primarily following Greenspan's retirement from public service.
The Townsend-Greenspan and Company series contains the working files of Greenspan's economic consulting firm.
The Age of Turbulence series contains the drafts and related material used in writing Greenspan's autobiography.
