Acquisition Information
The papers of the Pierson, Rioch, and Layton families were given to the Library of Congress in 2022 by Helen Stauderman, daughter of Katherine Frances Rioch Layton and great-niece of Harriet Wheeler Pierson.
Processing History
The papers of the Pierson, Rioch, and Layton families were arranged and described by Connie L. Cartledge with the assistance of Tracey Barton, Rosa Hernandez, and Miles David Lawlor. The collection came to the Library in minimal order. The papers were sorted and arranged by family members into groups and types of material to improve their navigation. Some items in the Pierson, Rioch, and Layton Families Papers have undergone mold remediation.
Transfers
Some photographs have been transferred to the Prints and Photographs Division where they are identified as part of the Pierson, Rioch, and Layton Families Papers. Patrons are encouraged to contact the Prints and Photographs Division in advance of a research visit.
