Scope and Content Note
The papers of Wendell Eugene Cannon span the years 1925-2018, with the bulk of the material from 1936. The collection documents Cannon's trip through the eastern United States and western Europe in the summer of 1936, including a few days spent in Berlin during the Summer Olympic Games. The papers consist of a journal documenting Cannon's trip through the United States from Illinois to New York City, including stops in Ohio and Pennsylvania, his time on board the Cunard White Star Line's MV Britannic, and days spent in Paris and Cologne. Also included are tourist ephemera, such as guidebooks, postcards, brochures, and other souvenir printed matter from various European and American tourist sites. Biographical material on Cannon includes his Ph.D. diploma from the University of Illinois, a few miscellaneous published articles, and a biographical sketch written by Cannon's son, Robert E. Cannon.
