Acquisition Information
The papers of John Von Neumann and Klára Dán Von Neumann were given to the Library of Congress between 1974 and 2022 by his daughter, Marina Von Neumann Whitman. An addition was received in 1993 from brother Nicholas A. Vonneuman. Other gifts and a purchase were received between 1998 and 2005.
Processing History
The papers of John Von Neumann and Klára Dán Von Neumann were arranged and described in 1992 by Bennett Heggestad and Patrick Kerwin. Addition I was processed and the finding aid revised in 2002 by Patrick Kerwin. Addition II was processed and the finding aid revised in 2014 by Joseph K. Brooks with the assistance of Jeffery Bryson and Chanté Wilson Flowers. Addition III was processed and the finding aid revised in 2023 by Katherine Madison.
Transfers
Items have been transferred from the Manuscript Division to other custodial divisions of the Library. A video recording has been transferred to the Motion Picture, Broadcasting, and Recorded Sound Division. Glass negatives were transferred to the Prints and Photographs Division. All transfers are identified in these divisions as part of the John Von Neumann and Klára Dán Von Neumann Papers. Patrons are encouraged to contact these divisions in advance of a research visit.
