Acquisition Information
The records of the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights, a national association of organizations concerned with civil rights, were given to the Library of Congress by the organization, 1974-1993. An addition was also given by Marvin Harold Kaplan in 1976. Further additions were received from the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights from 2003 to 2016.
Processing History
Part I of the records were processed by William J. Parham in 1979 and 1986. Additions to the papers were processed as Part II in 1992 by Michael Spangler and Laura Kells with the assistance of Susie Moody, Sherralyn McCoy, and Lisa Madison, and the finding aid was revised. Part I was reprocessed and the finding aid revised in 2009. Further additions to the papers were processed as Part III in 2019 by Melinda K. Friend with the assistance of Kathleen O'Neill and Kimberly Owens, and the finding aid was further revised and expanded.
Digital files were received as part of the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights Records on a variety of digital storage media. Each digital storage media was assigned a unique digital ID number. Checksums and an inventory for all files on each media were generated using the Bagger tool (v2.8.1). Files were scanned for viruses. Duplicates files and extraneous materials were removed on storage media level. The arrangement of the files remains as received.
Transfers
Moving image and sound recordings have been transferred to the Library's Motion Picture, Broadcasting, and Recorded Sound Division where they are identified as part of these papers. Patrons are encouraged to contact the Motion Picture, Broadcasting, and Recorded Sound Division in advance of a research visit.
Physical Characteristics and Technical Requirements
The files were created in both Windows operating system and Apple operating systems (versions unknown). Most files can be accessed with current tools or a file viewer. File formats include but are not limited to image files in .pdf, .jpg, and .gif formats; audio files in .aif, .swa, .mp3, and .wav format; moving image files in .mov, .swf, and .vob files, and text files in .doc and .txt format. Multimedia files from the following digital IDs require QuickTime 3 or 4 to run as they were originally created: mss52480_181_021, mss52480_181_031, mss52480_181-036, and mss862480_181_038.
Digital Format
Digital files were received as part of the records of Leadership Conference on Civil Rights Records on a variety of digital storage media. Each digital storage media was assigned a unique digital ID number. Use the digital ID number to request access copies of the files. Access to digital content is available onsite only in the Manuscript Reading Room and requires advanced notice. Consult reference staff in the Manuscript Division for more information.
