Mahler, Gustav |
A. Mus. ms.: Sketches to an unidentified symphonic movement, with a cover page in the autograph of Alban Berg. Calling the musical material "totally unknown" ("vollig unbekannt"), Berg comments on the possible date of origin, which he ascribes to an early period. The sketches represent a scherzo-like movement in 6/8, C Major-C minor, with a projected trio in 2/4 in A-flat Major. Berg conjectures that the melodies may have been transformed by Mahler at some time, possibly as late as in the Tenth Symphony. Berg signs his name and the date July 7, 1929. A total of 10p. (1p. by Berg, 7 leaves (9p.) by Mahler), 27x34 cm. |
