Custodial History
Shortly after the premiere of Mingus's extended work Epitaph in 1989, the endeavor to bring the Charles Mingus archives to the Library of Congress Music Division was set in motion. The purchase agreement was signed on May 21, 1992, marking the Library's first acquisition of a jazz composer's music and papers.
