Scope and Content Note
The Alan M. and Sali Ann Kriegsman Collection spans almost eight decades of materials documenting dance in the United States with paper materials such as clippings and articles, correspondence, institutional records of boards and other meetings, performance and conference programs, photographs, as well as personal papers and tear sheets of Alan M. Kriegsman.
The Subject Files series includes most of the topics of interest to the Kriegsmans, and the names of artists and companies are also included in this series. Genres of ballet and modern dance are well represented through programs, correspondence with artists and company administrators, press kits, records of service on dance company boards, conference records and notes. African American companies and the tap and jazz genres are represented here, as are several nonprofit organizations and foundations that supported dance. Because of the Kriegsmans's longtime residence in Washington, D.C., this collection documents the Washington area's dance activity and performance quite extensively. Additional subject files are likely to be added, as well as other series, when the collection is fully processed.
