Scope and Content Note
The Celia Ipiotis and Jeff Bush Eye on the Arts Archive is divided into three series: Programs, Clippings, and Press Kits and Press Releases. Each series is further identified by a genre: music, dance, theater (including musical theater), and film and video. Organization of the materials resembles its original order, usually chronologically by genre. When this has not been possible, materials are organized by genre and chronologically by decade. The materials date from 1994-2009 and represent the vast majority of major arts events occurring in New York City during that timeframe. As the programs and press kits were used by the donors for reference and research, many of the items have annotations or other notes.
The series Programs includes performances of music, musical theatre, plays, dance, mime, multidisciplinary arts, circus, other live events, as well as film. Many of the programs have been annotated or marked. Program inserts, such as cast changes or promotional materials, have been retained with the program.
Among the music performances are orchestral and chamber music, opera, jazz, and recital events performed at a variety of New York City venues, such as Aaron Davis Hall; Apollo Theater; B. B. The second series Clippings contains reviews and articles related to music, dance, and theater. The third series Press Kits and Press Releases provides promotional information on many of the major performing arts organizations in New York City, such as the American Ballet Theatre; Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company; Martha Graham Dance Company; Merce Cunningham Dance Company; José Limón Dance Company; Pacific Northwest Ballet; and San Francisco Ballet. Some of these items are packets or a set of related items. The Press Kits and Press Releases series for music, theater, film and video are sorted by genre.
