Scope and Content Note
The Henry Cowell Music Manuscripts consist of holograph scores, sketches, and parts donated by the composer or his wife, Sidney Robertson Cowell, from the 1950s through the 1970s. The manuscripts provide an excellent representation of Cowell's compositional experimentation and include materials for several of his most notable works, such as The Aeolian Harp (1923), The Banshee (1925), and his extensive series of Hymn and Fuguing Tunes (1940s) for a variety of performing forces. These materials are classed in ML96.C823 (Case) and many are also available on microfilm.
