Scope and Content Note
The Arsis Press Records span from 1947 to 2007, with the bulk of the material dating from 1983 to 2000. The Music series primarily contains printed scores with pasteovers that were used as printer's masters. In some instances, there are multiple score proofs containing composers' annotations and corrections. Composer biographies, cover art, and program or performance notes included in the final, printed versions of the scores are laid in with the music. The compositions range from solo instrumental works to larger-scale pieces for chorus and instrumentalists.
The Correspondence is organized into three file series: correspondence with Arsis composers, correspondence with composers whose music was not published by Arsis, and general correspondence. The Business Papers series contains meeting information from the Music Publishers' Association, which Arsis joined in 1975, and correspondence and contracts from the Plymouth Music Company, which became the distributor for Arsis Press in 1981.
The Financial Papers series contain Clara Lyle Boone's records of Arsis Press's income and expenditures. Documents in this series include tax forms; receipts for printing, shipping, and cover designs; invoices; and dues. The small Subject Files series contains clippings, programs, and biographical information for organizations and individuals associated with Arsis Press and Boone.
