Custodial History
The materials that Maia Bang Hohn assembled for a projected biography of Paganini comprise the largest portion of the collection. Many of the papers and diaries were in the possession of the Paganini family until 1910, at which point dealer Luigi Bastianelli sold the materials at auction to Frankfurt dealer Joseph Baer. In 1927, V. A. Heck of Vienna sold them to Hohn. The Music Division purchased her archive in 1944 from her husband, Charles Hohn, with funds from the Gertrude Clarke Whittall Foundation and kept it as a distinct unit within the Gertrude Clarke Whittall Foundation Collection.
Elisabeth Bondy donated sixteen items to the Library in March 11, 1949; Geraldine DeCourcy donated a photograph in October 1951; and Thomas L. Fawick donated the Register of Letters in 1962.
The Library purchased approximately fifty items, including correspondence and personal papers, from the Tolozzi Librai in 1957 with funds from the Gertrude Clarke Whittall Foundation.
