Scope and Content Note
The Harry Tierney Music Manuscripts span the years 1929 to 1964, the bulk of which date from 1950 to 1964. The collection consists of published and unpublished songs for voice and accompaniment, as well as the operetta Catherine of Russia, eventually titled Confine Yourself Catherine. This mixture of musical forms reflects Tierney's extensive work in both popular music and musical theater. The majority of the works in this collection were collaborations with songwriter and lyricist Raymond B. Egan, whom Tierney worked with frequently throughout his career.
The Music series contains 113 titles and consists of lead sheets, vocal parts, typed and handwritten lyric sheets for popular songs, and piano-vocal scores and vocal parts for Catherine of Russia. The lead sheets do not contain lyrics or chords.
