Scope and Content Note
The Alice Eversman and Elena de Sayn Papers span from 1862 to the 1970s and include materials pertaining to their performance and criticism careers, as well as their personal lives. The Correspondence series holds letters to and from Eversman and de Sayn and their personal and professional contacts, including performers, composers, critics, and government officials. The Scrapbooks series contains several volumes on various topics, including musicians Amy Beach and Andrés Segovia, as well as Eversman's and de Sayn's careers and personal lives. The Writings series collates Eversman's and de Sayn's publications, including notes and drafts, as well as written documents by others. The Music series is mostly comprised of printed scores from Eversman's and de Sayn's performance libraries, though it also contains a handful of manuscript scores and the pair's adaptation of Cesar Cui's The Mandarin's Son, titled The Lotus Flower.
The Photographs and Iconography series largely contains publicity photos of Eversman or de Sayn. The Programs and Promotional Material series highlights items pertaining to Eversman's and de Sayn's performing careers, as well as programs documenting other performers and institutions such as the Washington Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra, and the Metropolitan Opera.
The Subject Files series includes various documents pertaining to people and institutions, such as clippings, articles, brochures, and other writings. The Biographical Materials series contains financial and medical information, family documents, biographies, and other writings about the lives of Eversman and de Sayn.
