Scope and Content Note
The Morton Gould Performance Library spans from the 1920s to 1996 and is a large archive of primarily manuscript performance materials he created and used for radio, film, television, and in concert. The collection is divided into two subseries: Compositions by Morton Gould and Arrangements by Gould and Others.
The Compositions by Morton Gould subseries includes concert and stage works, film and television scores, sketches, juvenilia, and unfinished works. Of particular interest are Gould’s earliest attempts at composition, as well as sketches that date from just a few days before his death in 1996.
The Arrangements by Gould and Others subseries contains arrangements of mostly hit songs and light classics that were created for his successful radio programs that were broadcast in the 1930s and 1940s. The arrangements rarely indicate the composer. Where possible, processing staff have researched and attributed the composer for these works in this finding aid.
