Biographical Note
Charles Zachary Bornstein (b. 1951) is a conductor, composer, teacher, and playwright. He attended The Juilliard School and studied piano with Paul Jacobs and composition with Elliott Carter. From 2005 to 2008, Bornstein was the first Leonard Bernstein Scholar in Residence of the New York Philharmonic, and he has conducted and taught internationally. He has orchestrated and transcribed the works of Bernstein, Arnold Schoenberg, Iannis Xenakis, and others. Several of Bornstein's symphonies and other compositions, such as Clarion Calls (2014), are utilized in dramatic works.
