Scope and Content Note
The Cyrilla Barr Research Materials on Elizabeth Sprague Coolidge span from 1864 to 2000, with the bulk of the materials dating from 1912 to 1988. The Subject Files include people, institutions, locations, events, and ideas that Barr researched during her work on Coolidge's biography, Elizabeth Sprague Coolidge: American Patron of Music, published in 1998. There are articles, clippings, correspondence, excerpts from books, research notes, programs, and publicity materials, many of which are photocopies. Barr not only utilized the extensive Elizabeth Sprague Coolidge Foundation Collection in the Library of Congress to conduct her research, but numerous other repositories both in the United States and Europe as well.
The Photographs are black and white images and negatives of Elizabeth Sprague Coolidge, her family, and people associated with her music philanthropy activities. Photographs published in Barr's biography of Coolidge have the corresponding page numbers noted.
