Access and Use
Rights Restrictions
Publication may be restricted.
For full information see "Rights and Restrictions Information" for the Work of Charles and Ray Eames, at the Library of Congress.
Access Restrictions
The collection is open to research. Access restrictions apply. Some or all content stored offsite. When requesting to view items in the Prints and Photographs Reading Room, please allow fourteen days advance notice.
Requesting Materials
Please use Ask a Librarian, and provide the Call Number for the whole Eames Slide Box, including LC Series Code (LC-E14), Eames Project Code (e.g. AAR), and Eames Slide Box Number/s (appears before the decimal). You do not need to request individual slides for viewing access (numbers appearing after the decimal). Including the Container Number/s (left hand side "Box" #) can help expedite material retrieval.
Example request for slides of the Cosa Excavation from the American Academy in Rome project:
LC-E14-AAR009, in Box 140
Ordering reproductions requires the full LC Call number for an individual slide, which is the entire string including the numbers after the decimal point. For example, you would use the following call number to request a scan of the 78th slide in Eames Slide Box 9 from the American Academy in Rome group: LC-E14-AAR009.078
Experience has shown that it takes researchers, on average, one hour to go through one Eames Slide Box. A limit of up to 5 containers are retrieved for each research day scheduled. Limitations and exceptions are at the discretion of the library staff.
Remember that staff need 14 days advance notice to retrieve materials. If date of visit is known please provide that information in your initial request.
