Biographical Note

Documentary photographer, Peter Sekaer (1901-1950) was hired by the Rural Electrification Administration (REA) in 1936 to document government sponsored projects furnishing electricity to rural areas throughout the United States. By 1938 Sekaer was working for the U.S. Housing Authority photographing urban slums, primarily in the South and Midwest.
