Scope and Content Note
The James M. Goode collection contains photographic prints, negatives, and bookplates. Most items were collected by Goode and not created by him. The material primarily documents architecture and statues in Washington, D.C. and the other areas of the Mid-Atlantic region. Goode collected the images in the course of researching and illustrating his books, in particular, Capital Losses: A Cultural History of Washington's Destroyed Buildings (Smithsonian, 1979) and Best Addresses: A Century of Washington's Distinguished Apartment Houses (Smithsonian, 1988).
