Scope and Content Note
Daniel Carter Beard was an American book illustrator and art instructor who specialized in the drawing of outdoor life and wildlife in the United States and Canada. He was very involved in outdoor activities and was an important figure in the formation of the Boy Scouts of America. This group of photographic and graphic materials probably served as his personal study collection. Some of the mounts and photographs are marked with editorial notations that indicate that they may have been published in one or more of his books or articles on outdoor or scouting activities. It is also probable that he used these images as sources for subjects and details in his own illustration drawings.
