Scope and Content Note
Collection contains 4 albums of color photographs of county courthouses in 30 states of the U.S. The courthouses represented were constructed primarily in the 19th and 20th century, with a particular emphasis on the Midwest region. Many different architectural styles are represented, such as Federal, Neoclassical, Romanesque Revival, and Art Deco. The states included are Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and Wyoming. Most photographs show the front exterior of each courthouse from a short distance, while some have a closer view of details such as statues, sculptures, columns, or monuments on the buildings or grounds.
