Scope and Content Note
The album, owned by the family of hyperrealist painter and printmaker Ian Hornak, contains photographs featuring early aviation and related figures of the twentieth century. Included are snapshot photographs of Colonel Charles A. Lindbergh and Amelia Earhart as well as Evangeline L. L. Lindbergh, Henry Ford, President Calvin Coolidge, President William Howard Taft, Jack Dempsey, Albert Einstein, Lowell Thomas, Alexander Grey, Henry H. Ogden, Leo Gehlbach, Dutch Clark, and the 1934 Detroit Tigers baseball team. Also included are photographs of airplanes, airfields, and aircraft crashes. Multiple images of the Spirit of St. Louis plane are present, including some of the plane at Bolling Field before it was moved to the Smithsonian Institution. Newspaper clippings related to these topics are also included in the album.
