Arrangement

The original order of the photo morgue is retained as two series. The Biographical File series (A-L and M-Z) contains ca. 750,000 images arranged alphabetically by surname and such categories as "England Royal Family."

The Subject/Geographical File series contains ca. 250,000 images arranged alphabetically by topic or place name.

The type of material is primarily 8x10 inch black-and-white photographic prints stored in letter-size file folders. Other formats include newspaper clippings, paper printing plates, and caption cards. A very small portion of the estimated 1 million photographs is oversize material.
