Summary | Collection contains formal portraits of political and military leaders, many from World War I and World War II, as well as documentary sketches from that time period by artist Samuel J. Woolf. Notable individuals include Aristide Briand, Neville Chamberlin, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Rudolf Hess, Roberto M. Ortiz, Pope Pius XI, Theodore Roosevelt, Jr., among others. Much of the work in this collection is the result of Woolf's live sketching of portrait sitters and of scenes of soldiers fighting or in transit, military headquarters and encampments, daily life during the wars, and the civilian response to wars. |
