Scope and Content Note
Collection contains portraits and sketches by Samuel J. Woolf. Most portraits are of prominent leaders and military generals or officers from World War I and World War II. Notable individuals include Neville Chamberlin, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Rudolf Hess, Paul von Hindenburg, David Lloyd-George, Ignace Paderewski, John J. Pershing, Pope Pius XI, Theodore Roosevelt, Jr., Eleutherios Venizelos, among others. The sketches document the experience of soldiers and civilians during both world wars, and depict many different scenes such as damaged cities or towns, transportation by aircraft or vehicle, medical care or emergencies, and troops engaged in battle.
