Organizational History
The US Copyright Office began using the KFO Class on November 14, 1949 and continued assigning items to it until December 31, 1977. Class KFO was used for prints and pictorial illustration published abroad that were registered under a special provision, enacted on June 3, 1949, which allowed foreign authors to submit an additional copy of their work in lieu of a fee. The Copyright Office used a one-up numbering system based on when the material was submitted for copyright registration. The first 19 items submitted for registration under the KFO class were registered as "KO" by Copyright Office staff.
