Summary | Ralph Ellison, African American author and educator, was also a photographer and collector of a wide range of visual materials and ephemera. This collection includes the images he created and collected over the course of 60 years, mostly of life in New York City. Numerous images show Ralph Ellison and his wife Fanny Ellison, as well as famed authors, artists, and civil rights activists, including Langston Hughes, Albert Murray, Ida Guggenheimer, Francis and Beatrice Steegmuller, among others.
