The reason is unknown but if the machine was a portable unit, the batteries might have drained during the original recording. Speed issues clear up at 0:41:48 when the tape goes from 7 1/2 ips to 3 3/4 ips.

Archivist's note: See AFC 2016/002: SR053 for a Paul Cadwell performance that was noted as "secretly recorded"; this recording may have been made in a similar way. The latter half or so of the recording (performances by the unidentified musicians) was made in the game room.
