Topics covered include: Drills and maneuvers at Fort Devens, Massachusetts; weather conditions; not receiving mail for weeks at a time; inquiring about family and friends back home in Boston, Massachusetts; food; enjoying receiving mail from his younger sister Sue; sending parents money; needing money for incidentals; arriving safely in France; requesting family and friends send him cigarettes and tobacco; holidays; anxious to possibly see Paris; getting horses for division; worn out from riding horses bareback; French soldier detailed to keep their billet in order and clean their shoes; French people were kind; awful seeing towns and cities throughout France that were ruined due to war; running into sister's friend at the YMCA; wounded and taken to hospital near Nevers, France; loosing 13 teeth; serving with the 102nd Machine Gun Battalion; war ending; feeling very lucky to be alive.
