The General Correspondence is the bulk of this series. It mainly includes correspondence between the Order Division and vendors, book dealers, publishers, libraries, international institutions, and other sources regarding materials offered, approved, cancelled, purchased, and received. Other materials include files designated as memoranda, orders, subject files, and approval sheets. The memoranda consists of correspondence internal to the Library of Congress, particularly between specific divisions and the Order Division regarding acquisitions. The orders are invoices for material purchased by the Library through the Order Division. The subject files include letters to the Library regarding offered materials organized by subject. The approval sheets are reports on materials offered to the Library designated as accepted, postponed, or rejected.
Material types include correspondence, memoranda, orders, subject files, and approval sheets.
Arranged chronologically by fiscal year (July through June the following year) and therein alphabetically by name of correspondent.
