The Armed Services and Veterans Affairs series documents the activities of the Armed Services and Veterans Affairs Department and other programs aimed at assisting military personnel and their families. The series dates mostly from the 1970s and largely contains the files of department head Julius E. Williams, as well as those of Samuel D. Wright, and John J. Johnson. The majority of the series comprises case files documenting discrimination complaints by active-duty service members and challenges of veterans attempting to access benefits and health care. Additional topics include military recruitment, Reserve Officers’ Training Corps programs, job fairs and vocational counseling, and the activities of individual branch Veterans Affairs Committees.
Material types include correspondence, case files, newsletters, reports, event programs, and printed matter.

The Branch Department series encompasses the work of the Branch Department, whose chief responsibility involved overseeing and guiding the organization’s many local branches across all fifty states and on military bases abroad.
