2022 Addition, 1920-1926
|
|
The 2022 Addition includes correspondence concerning Calvin Coolidge's
authorship of a three-article series published in the Delineator, an American women's magazine, from June to August, 1921.
Correspondents include Marie Mattingly Meloney, the editor of the Delineator, William Brown Meloney, her husband, and Edward Tracy Clark,
Coolidge's secretary. There is also correspondence between Marie Meloney and
Vassar College faculty member Burges Johnson, in which Johnson questions
Coolidge's authorship of the articles and the validity of the sources cited by
the author. The addition also includes handwritten drafts of each article,
which discuss the threat of domestic radicalism in the United States and
communist influence in American women's colleges. Research material includes
lists of quotations from women's college publications. There are also two
contemporary reviews of the articles and a signed photograph of Coolidge. Material types include correspondence, telegrams, handwritten drafts, notes,
printed matter, clippings, and a photograph. |
