			Copies of outgoing letters primarily from Verner W. Clapp and Fred Cole that spans between 1966 and 2000, with a sizeable gap in records between 1981 and 1993. The period between 1966 and 1980 represent letters sent by the Council on Library Resources. The years 1994-1997 include correspondence, press releases, and Board of Directors reports from both the Council on Library Resources and the Commission on Preservation and Access. The years after the merger, 1997 through 2000, represent letters sent by CLIR.

		Records detailing grant funded projects awarded by or to CLIR and its originating organizations. The W.J. Barrow Laboratory records document a series of grants issued by the Council on Library Resources to study paper deterioration and other paper preservation issues over the period from 1957 to 1977. The W.K. Kellogg Foundation records document a grant awarded to CLIR to participate in the Foundation’s Human Resources for Information Systems Management (HRISM) program from 1994 to 1997. The General records comprise grant listings and indices, funding information and sources, and smaller projects funded by CLIR.

BOX 131-151		W.J. Barrow Research Laboratory, 1957-1987
			Progress reports, correspondence, grant applications, financial reports, and articles reflecting a series of grants funded by the Council on Library Resources to the Laboratory for the study of paper deterioration between 1957 and 1977. Initially, the Council issued grants to the Virginia State Library for specific studies performed in part by W.J. Barrow. In 1961, the Council funded a grant to establish the W.J. Barrow Laboratory and subsequently funded the Laboratory’s operations through additional grants until 1977 when funding ceased. The results of these studies were published in a book series titled Permanence/Durability of the Book. These files primarily relate to funding matters and financial reporting, but also include correspondence, progress reports for the various Permanence/Durability of the Book studies, patent applications and related correspondence, and in the 1970s, minutes, reports, and correspondence of a review group established by the Council to examine the utility of the Laboratory.
