BOX 1-11, OV 1 Personal, 1919-2013
The Personal series contains correspondence with Hoffman’s friends and family, family photographs, and Hoffman’s personal journals. Personal correspondence includes letters from Hoffman’s parents, Daniel Hoffman and Frances Hoffman, neighbors in Swarthmore, Pa., friends in Maine, where the family spent its summers, as well as fellow writers. Included with the correspondence is an audio recording of an interview with Jack Foley. As Hoffman’s social circle included many writers and academics, his personal correspondence overlaps with the professional correspondence found in the Literary Correspondence series. Also included in the Personal series are correspondence to and from Hoffman’s wife, Elizabeth, and their two children, Kate and MacFarlane, family photographs and Hoffman’s personal journals containing notes, research and drafts of poems. Family photographs primarily document Kate Hoffman’s early childhood, but also include a small number of images of the Hoffman children later in their childhood and in early adulthood, and photographs taken late in Hoffman’s life. Some of the family photographs are digital.
Material types include correspondence, photographs, journals, academic records, military records, clippings, printed matter, and objects.
Arranged alphabetically by topic or type of material. The file structure of the digital content has been maintained as received.
