The Miscellany series holds additional items from and information about Herzfeld’s life and activities, some of which pertain to his personal life. A grouping of photographs taken throughout his career supplement the files in the Positions and Affiliations series. A grouping of family papers mainly contains documents pertaining to his uncle, physicist Karl F. Herzfeld. Included in these papers are letters from the elder Herzfeld offering support and guidance to Charles as a graduate student at the University of Chicago. The letters also include messages fromKarl's wife, Regina Flannery Herzfeld, an anthropologist. During this period, both were professors at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. Also included in the series are what Herzfeld called "Logs," compilations of notes, event programs, printed emails, and other material relating to his activities during the years 1991-2007. Compilations of Herzfeld’s notes and information relating to topics such as the future of computing, the impact of the Information Age, long-term strategies for war, the research and development process, and science and technology strategies appear to be areas of interest and project ideas of interest to Herzfeld in the later years.
