BOX 25-27	Molly Malone Cook File, 1863-2013
		The Molly Malone Cook File series consists of a limited volume of correspondence, biographical material, photographs both taken by and of Cook, newspaper clippings, writings, and other material documenting Cook’s work as a literary agent, primarily between 1980 and 2000. Other material includes blank letterhead from Cook’s businesses VII Photographers Gallery, VII Paperback Books, and East End Bookshop, files related to the donation of her papers to Smith College, drafts of writings, and a small file dedicated to Cook’s family history. The bulk of this series comprises the "name file," which primarily includes correspondence, printed matter, photographs, interviews, and drawings from and related to the artist Arthur Cohen, filmmaker and one-time employee of Cook’s, John Waters, and writer Norman Mailer, for whom Cook worked as a secretary, and Oliver as a typist, during the 1970s. Material types include correspondence, notes, photographs, newspaper clippings, identification cards, unpublished writings, and printed matter.

		The Writings series documents Oliver’s career as a best-selling poet and essayist and chiefly comprises notebooks and notes, book manuscript drafts, page proofs, production correspondence, reviews, and printed matter containing Oliver’s work. Dating from 1956 to 2017, the series is arranged in two groupings: notebooks and notes and a publications file. Notebooks and notes includes Oliver’s birding “sight lists” and other observations of the natural world, as well as over 130 small, bound notebooks, some handbound, Oliver kept during her daily walks on Cape Cod. The notebooks are largely undated and are arranged as received in numerical order. The publications file primarily comprises manuscript material related to all her major works, drafts of shorter works of prose, introductions or forwards to several books, and reviews written by Oliver. In general, Oliver kept few drafts of poems, though a limited number of files related to specific poems are included. These files reflect major edits, demonstrate Oliver’s work process, and highlight her most well-known works. Manuscript files on individual book-length titles include contracts, correspondence, book cover design material, manuscript drafts, notes, permission requests, page and galley proofs, and reviews and publicity material. Periodicals, arranged alphabetically by title, almost exclusively comprise final print copies of publications featuring Oliver’s work, with minimal associated correspondence or notes. Miscellaneous printed matter, grouped at the end of the series, documents Oliver’s work included in poetry anthologies and other book-length works, as well as calendars, exhibit catalogs, church service bulletins, Provincetown city and festival guides, and other miscellany. Inventories and lists of publications can be found in box 33 for book-length titles and box 63 for individual poems and works of prose published in periodicals. Material types include manuscript drafts, poems, notes, notebooks, newspaper clippings, contracts, correspondence, page and galley proofs, periodicals, copyright forms, photographs, drawings, and printed matter.
